Gaillardia x grandiflora 'Goblin'
Common name   Dwarf Blanket Flower
Hardiness Zone   3 - 10
Sun   Full sun
Soil   Moist, well-drained
Flower color   Yellow, orange, red
Bloom Time   June - September
Height   1 foot

General Culture:
Best grown in average, dry to medium wet, well-drained soil in full sun. Tolerates dry soils, but is intolerant of heavy clay soils. Flowers well without deadheading. Cut back flower stems at the end of the bloom season, however, to promote vegetative growth.
Noteworthy Characteristics:
This Gaillardia cultivar is a hybrid typically growing only 12 inches tall. Features large, daisy-like, rich red petals that are trimmed in a 'sweet corn' yellow. Long summer bloom period. 'Goblin' will keep flowering non-stop from about late July until frost and with little or no dead-heading.
Problems:
No serious insect or disease problems. Some susceptibility to leaf spot, powdery mildew and aster yellows. Wet soils in winter can be fatal.
Uses:
Provides long-lasting summer bloom for the perennial border or cutting garden. Excellent fresh cut flower. May be naturalized in wild areas.
